Mission: 23: Something going on in the Muratas Cluster
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 6 November, 2391

ON:

Andreas stood at the med bay doors for a minute after the Captain left to gather his thoughts. He understood the need for a physical upon reporting in, but he still didn't like them. It wasn't that he had anything against the nurses and doctors, it was the med bay itself. It had been years since his parents had passed away, but the thought of them lying on the biobeds always flashed to the front of his mind anytime he entered any med bay.

"Enough of this ... let's get this done." Andreas muttered to himself as he entered medical.

Looking around, he saw a few doctor's and nurses, but didn't know any of them. "Excuse me, I'm here for my initial physical, do you know who I'd see for that?" Andreas asked the nearest nurse.

"Hello Lieutenant" Day said as she passed the Deltan orderly offered a welcoming smile. "Just go to the front desk, Nurse Veridae can help you."

Walking over, he gently cleared his throat. "Excuse me, ma'am. I'm Lt. O'Shaunessy reporting in for my physical."

"Yes, we've been expecting you. As you can see things here are rather active." Varidae said with a smile. "Ill notify Doctor Amar that you've arrived." She pressed sickbays internal comm and spoke. =^=Doctor Amar, a Lieutenant O'Shaunessy is here for his baseline ma'am.=^=

=^=I'll be right out.=^= Amar responded having had to go over her medical staff due to some changes having lost one of her nurses to a transfer. She saved her work and entered the reception area spotting the red haired lieutenant she walked over. "Lieutenant O'Shaunessy?"

"Yes ma'am." Andreas replied. "Thank you for seeing me."

Amar held her hand out to him. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant." She smiled as she looked up and did a visual assessment. Physically fit, she mentally noted, not underweight. "I'm Commander Amar, the ships CMO and XO. "

Taking the offered hand, Andreas smiled. "Thank you, ma'am. Good to meet you too. That's pretty handy, I get my physical out of the way and meet the XO all in one shot."

"Let's get your baseline out of the way shall we. This way please." She smiled at his confident grip and after releasing his hand turned to walk towards the exam room. "How was your trip to join us?" She asked in a conversational tone as she stopped to motion him in to exam room one.

"It was good, thanks. Uneventful and relaxing." He replied, falling in step behind the doctor.

"Here we are, please lay down on the biobed and breathe normally." Amar motioned to the bed and picked up the PADD to scroll to his medical records.

Laying down, Andreas took a deep breath, trying to relax. He knew that other than everything would come back normal, but laying on a bed in sickbay tended to make him somewhat uneasy.

Amar turned on the biobed and made an adjustment for his vital signs. "Are you nervous Lieutenant?" She asked noting a higher pulse rate than normal. She adjusted the bed for neurological readings. Making notes of each scan and recording them into his file. Her eyes flicking from the readings to her notes. She paused and waited with a calm smile for him to answer.

"Nervous? No, ma'am." Andreas replied, shaking his head. "It's just that I haven't been a fan of sick bays since my parents passed away. Any time I'm in a sick bay, the images of them lying on the biobeds after the attack come rushing to the surface. It won't affect my job, though, ma'am."

"I am sorry to hear you lost your parents, were you very young?" Amar asked as she scanned his gastrointestinal system. She switched to a skeletal scan taking notes of the calcification on leg and wrist breaks.

"I was 15. Old enough to understand what happened and why, which is pretty much the only thing I'm grateful for. I've come to terms with what happened with a preference to avoid sickbay's whenever possible being the only issue."

"That is still an impressionable age... Not much older than my twins are now." Amar spoke as she adjusted the readings again finishing up his scans. "We have an excellent counseling staff on board. If you're ever bothered by it. You'll meet Counselor Coventina for your psyche eval. She is easy to talk to." She looked down and glanced at his records. "Your due for an inoculation booster. We wouldn't want you becoming ill on an away mission."

"I might just do that, even if it's to help me past my aversion to sickbay's." He replied, moving the collar on his uniform. "Until then, I'll take that booster to increase my chances of not having to come back here anytime soon." Andreas said with a hint of a smile and a wink.

Amar loaded the combined booster ampule into the hypo spray and injected it into his neck. "This may sting a little Please sit up." She spoke as she sat down the hypospray and pulled a sealed vial with a swab from a drawer. "All I need now is a DNA sample." She coded the vial number into his chart then handed him the tube. "I'll just swab the insides of your cheeks."

Andreas winced slightly as the booster was injected and opened his mouth for the cheek swab.

Amar scrubbed the swab against both sides of his cheeks. "I know it leaves your mouth feeling dry." She spoke as she deposited the swab in the vial slipping it in her pocket to be deposited in the refrigerated safe. "Would you like a cup of tea or coffee?"

"Thanks for the offer, ma'am, but I'm good. So, does everything check out ok? Am I good to go to start onboard, ma'am?" Andreas asked.

"I'm marking you physically fit for duty." Amar smiled up at him. "Although you still require a psyche eval. I'd use the interim while we're being towed to familiarize yourself with the ship and get settled in, meet your staff."

Getting up off the biobed, Andreas smiled at the doctor. "Thank you for your time, ma'am. I really appreciate it. I'll make an appointment with the counselor as soon as they have an opening and look forward to meeting my staff."

Amar offered her hand. "Again welcome aboard Lieutenant O'Shaunessy. You'll find the Asgard crew are fairly close knit. In a sense an extended family. If you have any problems please contact me as the XO or as a Doctor. The Docking Bay our ships ten forward is a great place to get acquainted with the crew off duty. I need to get your sample secured, excuse me."

"Thank you, ma'am. Have a good day." Andreas said as he left.
